As is well known, our ability to hold our balance while we are standing or moving depends on our eyes, our vestibular system, and the coordinated motion of our musculoskeletal system. Sadly, as we age, they depreciate with time, and we need assistance with a walking stick, or a walker, or else face the danger of a fall.
HGR has developed an exercise that trains the foot to firmly grasp the ground to produce the required torque at the ankles to manipulate the lower limbs of the body to counter any overturning moments produced by the motion of the upper body. Persistent training appears to be able to strengthen all parts of the lower body, particularly the strength and dexterity of the foot, thus leading to an improved balancing stunt.
