Real-time Adjustable Feedback and Tracking Glove for Virtual Rehabilitation: Eating disorder

Brand:
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University - Research Institute for Smart Ageing
Function(s):
Virtual reality (VR) is a category of information technology that creates an interactive and immersive environment for the user through a virtual simulation of the real world. Success has been demonstrated in the rehabilitation of motor, cognitive, and sensorial deficiencies using VR. However, the training performance are greatly associated with the realism of the virtual environment. The realer the virtual environment, the higher the users’ sense of immersion and therefore, the better the virtual rehabilitation performance. We present a Real-time Adjustable Feedback and Tracking Glove, which provides the user with information about the actual surface shape and hardness of the virtual object. The glove has two main functions, finger tracking and force feedback, which are achieved by rheostats, linear servos. With the help of the Real-time Adjustable Feedback and Tracking Glove, we develop a rehabilitation game for eating disorder patients. Player can train their motor cognition on swallowing through the game.
